Über den Autor Abdulrazak Gurnah
Abdulrazak Gurnah ist ein tansanischer Schriftsteller und Hochschullehrer. Er wurde 1948 in Sansibar geboren, das heute zu Tansania gehört, und kam 1968 als Student nach Großbritannien.
Er ist bekannt für seine Romane, die die Auswirkungen des Kolonialismus und das Schicksal von Flüchtlingen zwischen Kulturen und Kontinenten erforschen. Im Jahr 2021 wurde ihm für sein Werk der Nobelpreis für Literatur verliehen. Die Schwedische Akademie würdigte ihn für seine "kompromisslose und mitfühlende Durchdringung der Auswirkungen des Kolonialismus".
Gurnah war Professor für Englische Sprache und Postkoloniale Literaturen an der University of Kent, wo er bis zu seiner Pensionierung lehrte. Er hat zahlreiche Romane, Kurzgeschichten und Essays verfasst. Zu seinen bekannten Werken gehören "Paradise" (für den Booker Prize nominiert) und "By the Sea" (Finalist für den Los Angeles Times Book Prize).
